Why shrink tubing?

There are a number of blade retention systems used in the industry. Most use some form of a band. Either a rubber band or an o-ring. While these bands work and are easily replaced, they are all susceptible to dry rot and cracking.

How many times have you pulled an arrow from your quiver only to find the retention band has fallen off?

The other retention method uses some sort of a friction device, or cam-over pressure to hold the blades closed. While these too work, how can you be sure that the friction is enough to hold back the blades every shot? Especially if it's been used more than once. Are you willing to risk your health, or the shot of a lifetime should the head open at the time of release?

We use military shrink tubing as our retention band.

It's "visible"
Meaning you know it's in place and the blades will not open at the shot.

It's "impervious to the elements"
Meaning it will not dry rot or crack.

This is why the military uses it extensively to protect wire harnesses in their weapon systems.
